EPOS-ORFEUS Competence Center

EOSC-hub Competence Centre

ORFEUS coordinates the seismological waveform services in European Plate Observing System (EPOS). The ORFEUS European Integrated Data Archive (EIDA) federates eleven European seismological data centres into a common framework to offer: (a) long-term preservation of seismological data; (b) tools to access data and advanced seismological services and products; (c) a platform for the curation of seismological data and its description with canonical metadata and (d) procedures for attribution and citation.

Ambition

The CC collects and assesses the requirements of the solid-Earth science community, with a specific focus on seismology, and addresses them by leveraging the EOSC-hub technical offerings.

Progress

  • the B2ACCESS service and integrated with four seismological data services.
  • Data Staging service (DaSta) –  scenarios and use cases were defined as well as a technological selection was performed and a prototype was developed.
  • enabling scientific data analysis – The requirements for the generation of user-defined products were defined and technological solutions were selected. Two different solutions were tested: EGI Notebook deployed at GRNET and ResearchDrive with Jupyter integration at SURFsara.
  • Federated Data Lifecycle service (FeDaLi) –  A framework, named RuleManager, was developed that enables data centre operators to define and run data management policies.
