SSHOC and Archaeology: Learning from the ARIADNE Portal

Time 18 November 2020, 16:00 - 16:45 CET
Chair Holly Wright (ADS), Julian Richards (University of York)
Description Over the last eight years, the ARIADNE infrastructure has been aggregating archaeological data across Europe and beyond. As the Deputy Coordinators of ARIADNE, the Archaeology Data Service brings expertise and experience from developing the ARIADNE Portal and the ARIADNE community, informed by 25 years as a trusted digital repository for archaeology, to the SSHOC infrastructure. We will present the ARIADNE infrastructure, including the work on user needs and in community building, along with the aggregation tools and standards in use for the ARIADNE portal. As archaeology works with extremely diverse and difficult datatypes, the lessons learned are useful for establishing best practice relevant to a wide variety of areas across the Social Sciences and Humanities.
